Ork Lootaz- A Little More Dakka

So here's the second loota I've been working on. These pictures are a little premature because he's still not quite finished yet, but I wanted to keep the updates rolling. So without further ado, I present the 2nd ork loota to be...ahem...finished :)

 

 

Here you should be able to see the ammo hopper. The story is that Dokket, the ammo runt, is removing the rounds from an old ammo belt and dropping them into the hopper. The hopper then feeds the rounds into the gun. Unfortunately, the poor guy needs to act fast or else face the displeasure of his master when the gun runs dry!

Ork Lootaz- Re-visiting the Project

I'm sure many of you have been peering back at the blog from time to time wondering 'what ever happened to those lootaz you were working on?' At the time I was getting some fantastic feedback from everybody, which really kept me going with the project but then I moved and they became lost amongst all the other things I've been doing.

Well 2 weeks ago I played a game of 40k using my ork army and did astonishingly well considering my opponent. I also fielded my lootaz in this battle, which had many people attending club that day giving me praise on how cool they looked. Kind words combined with game success has inspired me to get cracking on finishing the unit properly and that means putting the painting hat back on!

So, as I promised Pom, I spent all of Sunday relaxing with DS-9, paint and Toad in the Hole! However, it wasn't battle wagons I was working on (sorry to mislead you Pom). Instead, I got the first of 12 lootaz finished, based and weathered. I do hope you enjoy, oh and keep dropping in, I intend to finished this project fully.

Don't worry you're safe so long as he's aiming at you personally!

On the Smurf Bench: Looted Boom Wagon pt2

Well progress has been slow on the wagon this week because I'm still waiting on some parts from a friend (who forgot them this club). I was able to pick up some cool 'generator' looking ships from my local hobby shop from the firestorm armada range. When the weapons mounted to the tank I can start building all the generators and wiring everything up!

In the meantime, I began painting my lootaz again. I'm hoping to use them in my current list in place of the deff koptaz. So that means actually painting them. Trouble is there are just too many details, something I have found in the past. In which case it takes an age to paint one! Here's my progress so far:

The Final Loota Takes the stage and to the Field of Battle!

Hello friends, I hope you are well.

It has been quite difficult for me to find the time to finish this project but I'm glad to say it is finally within sight (that is if we ignore the fact that they all still need to be painted!).

I got a big bag of eldar bits from a friend of mine at club, which inspired me to follow the energy laser theme once more. This time I wanted a plethora of energy weapons all powered by a dawn of war style generator. I still have the greenstuffing to do and I also want to wire it in considerably more just to emphasize the powered aspect of the weapon.

Anyway, I present to you gentle folks, the 12th and final member of my loota squad!

Energy Lighting Techniques: A work in progress

There was no rogue trader this week because of heavy drinking so I can't write up a new Tales of Trade and Adventure episode, sorry guys. Definitely next week.

Instead maybe some more work on my loota squad may act as suitable compensation. I decided to have a crack at some lighting techniques to emphasize some of the energy weapon deff guns. This guy is nowhere near done yet, but I'm starting to see where the light is going to go and how strong it should be. The blade under the barrel needs completely re-doing and a few other bits do too, but its still early days. I quite like the effect so far, I hope you do too.

Its been a perfect day today here in Aberystwyth but did the sun tempt me out to the beach? Not for a second. Nope, instead I did this. Enjoy.

Here's the work in progress shots of the latest of the lootas. I'm up to eight now so a full squad is just over the horizon. Unless I decide to boost it up to 15, in which case I'm just over half way. Anyway, that's enough maths, lets take a look at the dakka.

I also replaced the barrel on the previous loota, which I felt was too weedy and didn't fit the stature of an ork looted weapon. Unfortunately, the ammo feeder now looks to small. Hmm more work to be done I think. I also want to add some straps, more wires and possibly replace the head. The horns are a bit too much.

Some overdue loota progress

It has been awhile since I last picked this project up, which is a shame because I was getting some really nice feedback from you guys and gals. Unfortunately, as you will all know, work and girlfriends get in the way sometimes.

Anyway, I managed to get another one built bringing the unit composition up to six. All that is left to finish is the greenstuff work and some extra little details here and there.

What do you say to an ork loota?

Anything you like, most of the time he can't hear you!

This guy has a gas powered assault cannon thing. The ammo is contained in the drum on the front.

I love this one, the grot on his back is removing bullets from the feed and dropping them into the ammo loader!

I can't stand the look of the shoulder mounted deff guns, which is a shame because the unit is such a nice thing to field in an army. Instead I always wanted them to be hulking about massive miniguns of some sort, which is why I bought the maxmini miniguns they recently added to their web store. Unfortunately they are only as large as an ork boyz shoota and are more in keeping with a human wielder. I bought a box of lootas anyway and began hacking up the bits and repositioning them to suit my initial idea. I am really pleased with the way the first two have come out. It just takes some patience, limb repositioning and greenstuff but I guess that's all part of the fun! Just another eight to go.
